Even though I heard the film received extremely and unbelievably negative reviews all over, I didn't change my mind and went for an afternoon show today in IMAX 3D. I found it enjoyable to the core as I didn't look for flaws or something even close to that. The audience turnout had also been quite lower than usual following the negative talk but I still enjoyed it like any other X-Men movie. Dark Phoenix will feel familiar in parts largely because of the plot being pretty similar to X-Men: The Last Stand that also had Jean Grey in the same avatar. So I won't say you should be expecting a completely new story here but the presentation is what really works big time. It gets the viewer gripped from the opening dialogue to the very last moment with its fast paced screenplay and well executed nonstop action. Sophie Turner's performance as Jean Grey truly stands out. James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender also deliver impressive performances as expected. Jessica Chastain's character can be considered a welcome addition to the X-Men series even though we aren't going to see it again, possibly. I wish some characters were used to the fullest, like Storm and a few more, but with time I didn't think about this anymore. Visual effects are top notch. You really need to see the film in 3D and in the highest possible quality, if you really want to see it in the first place. And since this is first and foremost an action film, it doesn't forget to deliver all the superhero action viewers want. That should be enough to experience this cool summer blockbuster on the big screen, at least once. Call it anything, love it or hate it, the film will definitely work well with an audience of its own. As per reports, it might have bombed at the box office, but it has chances of doing better upon home video release. Even though comparisons with The Last Stand are inevitable, the film is still an impressive visual spectacle that doesn't deserve the heavy amount of hate it has been getting.

Pubg posted a review for Dark Phoenix in Movies
So, when Dark Phoenix, starring Sophie Turner who has gained worldwide fame with her role as Sansa Stark in the show Game Of Thrones, was announced, there was much hope. Apart from seeming dark and edgy, the trailer looked promising. Well, that just shows how deceptive trailers can be. Unfortunately, Dark Phoenix is just old wine in an older bottle. The film is the final nail in the coffin for the X-Men series and as far as finales go, after the fantastic Avengers: Endgame and Logan, this is just a miserable finish to the franchise. Directed by Simon Kinberg, Dark Phoenix is the second attempt at retelling one of the most iconic storylines in the comics, the phoenix saga. After the horrendous attempt in X-Men: The Last Stand, this one does not seem to have fared much better. Compared to these attempts, the animated series that ran in the 90's had done more justice to the Phoenix saga. Just a small summary, on a mission to space, Jean accidentally absorbs a cosmic force from a solar flare. This makes her more powerful, yet unstable. She cannot control it and is a threat to everyone she cares around her. Yes, this is a done-to-death storyline everywhere, superheroes battling their powers and having to choose between good and evil. But at least in many cases, the packaging is different. Here, it's outright predictable and so formulaic that you know the path the film will take after the first 20 minutes. Jean Grey smashes a few things, and a terrible accident later, some of her teammates decide she's bad and must be stopped. Apart from angst-ridden friends, Jean has a bloodthirsty alien race on her trail, who want to absorb her powers. There is the usual talk of love and family: Magneto (Michael Fassbender) being caught in a conflict that he wants to avoid, Charles Xavier (James Mcavoy) trying to get inside people's heads and convincing them to return home. Most of the other characters remain deadpan and have no motivation or characteristic apart from just reacting to Jean's powers. The biggest disappointment is Scott or Cyclops, who just comes across as a whiny child crying about his girlfriend. If you expected more from weather-goddess Storm, please don't. She's just there to tell you that Jean is bad. Nightcrawler is blue and exists to teleport people, and the writers forgot that he might have a personality beyond that. Quicksilver is forgotten about in the second half of the film. The relationship between the earlier members of X-Men, like Xavier, Mystique and Magneto are the good points of the film, though you cannot see much of it. The chemistry between McaAvoy and Fassbender remains as combustible as ever, but you have hardly any time to dwell on that. Seriously, the next time, make a film on Xavier and Magneto playing chess. Even that might be better. To be honest, Sophie Turner, for the most part does a fair job, even though she is not as convincing as you would like her to be in the role. Unfortunately, the cringe-worthy dialogues and action scenes tend to be too overpowering to notice her performance properly. The film becomes a congealed mass of spandex that even talented actors like Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender cannot save. The ending is meant to be hard-hitting but just leaves you with one eyebrow politely raised. All is not lost entirely; there are two or three memorable dialogues in the film. Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique tells Charles, "The women are saving the men, we should be the X-Women." And another, which is strikingly similar to Captain Marvel, the villain tells Jean that emotions make her weak. Jean replies that her emotions have made her stronger, and they continue their battle. It is promising to see films take this line, as for eons, women are always told to keep their emotions under check and not be 'hysterical'. If only the film could have been crisper, and less fragmented, these lines might have actually had a harder impact.

The last entry in the X-Men franchise is the least interesting and yawn inducing one yet. Still can't figure out how Simon Kinberg can go wrong twice: once with "X3:The Last Stand" and now this. The Last Stand is definitely better in comparison. The cast did their part well. But the script and direction ruined it's chances of being a good sendoff to the long running franchise.

Directed by Kinberg, staring GOT star Turner in the lead role this movie is bang for your bucks. One of the best X Men films. Don't believe the critics review. This film is definitely worth a watch. Turner's performance is outstanding as Jean Grey. Visual effects are top notch. One of the best action films. Plot is simple but, the film is very good.

'X men: dark phoenix' is an average movie. This is a very poor movie in the X- Men franchise. The story is good but quite predictable. Due to Sophie Turner's jean character, other actors get less screen time but they acted very well. Due to reshoots story ruins and changes in ending scenes, we can notice. There are emotional scenes but we can't connect with them. However, one great thing about the movie is the background score. Legendary Hans Zimmer gave great music

The Phoenix is Dark, but the movie is average with some cool moments. The direction, acting were commendable, but there was a lack of brilliance as it could have been a masterpiece. The biggest star of the movie was the cgi special effects action scenes, they were spectacular. The movie beginning & ending was awesome, but movie is mediocre in the middle. I don't understand why Wolverine was not part of this movie even for a cameo, I think that would have made this movie more interesting. So if you are a fan of X - Men movie franchise, don't expect a lot & you won't be disappointed, but definitely a one time watch.

Well, where to start. If you thought Last Stand was a trilogy destroyer then Dark Phoenix is a potential franchise destoryer. In short Dark Phoenix is a mess. Its runtime is comparatively short but it feels like a slog. It's poorly written, has no heart, and quite frankly is boring. The main death was spoiled in the trailer, so that never boded well, if you've managed to avoid that spoiler I won't reveal it here but that actor had the right idea, get out of the picture as soon as possible. Sophie Turner's starring role is underwhelming. There is very little emotional connect in this story, I found myself not caring who lived or died. The character of Charles is ruined in this film. It's like he has regressed to the version when Logan met him in Days of Future Past only he is even more narcissistic. Magneto pitches up but for no fathomable reason. The chief threat (aside from Jean) is barely explained. I could go on and on. In summary Dark Phoenix makes The Last Stand seem like Endgame. If the X-Men are brought in to the Marvel universe then there will need to truly bring them back from the dead, like the proverbial phoenix rising from the ashes. My gut would be that we will not be seeing these characters for some time, if ever again.

This film was amazing! I don't understand the bad reviews at all. Sophie Turner did an awesome job of portraying the emotions conflicting within, the supporting cast were fantastic and I got more of a connection to the xmen as a team. The film was simplistic and coherant, and very good story telling. It was dark, intense and the music score was amazing and added so much drama to it. This was by far one of my favourite super hero films. It flowed faultlessly and didn't dettract from the main themes. No cameos, no cheesy jokes which is what I personally prefer and just followed jeans journey. The visual effects were incredible, this was totally worth the wait. This may not be liked now but I feel this will be a cult classic. This film has depth to it and is being compared to the other cliche marvel films out there catered more for a younger audience. Xmen has always had a bit of grit and represents a minority group always struggling to be liked by the majority much like the critics of this film.

I didn't expected this movie would be so bad. The biggest problem in this film is its villain whose motive is to destroy this world to rebuild it in their own way. It's neither new nor exciting because we have already seen this in avengers. I will not recommend anyone to watch this movie.

Actually to be a little iconoclastic, the film is probably somewhat more believeable than the original comic. In terms of story, it does not let up on the tension keeping us wondering whether in this incarnation will Jean get out alive? The fight scenes are excellent and I feel it is the first time we have ever seen Cyclops properly in combat the way he is portrayed in the mags. I loved "First Class," and I feel this is the first movie to demonstrate an comparable standard.

Dark Phoenix was by every right a good film. Logan did not make me want to watch the x-men films but DP definitely did. This is how you portray a strong character. And it's just sad to see Captain Marvel getting so much praise and DP get criticised so bad. DP did everything what CM couldn't. It's not just about a cosmic force "entering you". I have nothing to say but AWESOME.. Must watch

The latest movie of X-Men has just quashed the expectations of fans who were waiting for the film for so long. It was apparently lucid from the trailer that the movie is not going to meet the expectations of its previous ones, but people like me had hope. The deleterious effect of Wolverine's absence was clearly visible. Even though the prominent roles were being played by great actors but it wasn't enough if the script isn't holding. I would like you to eschew this movie if you can, you won't be able to tolerate the overenthusiatic approach of this film. Though some VFX shots are stunning, except for that it's just a skeleton under clothes.

The x-men films are the very definition of diminishing returns. When the last stand, the third installment to the original series, ran the franchise to the ground, first class worked as fairly entertaining reboot and days of future past turn out to be a surprisingly good sequel . we are back to the same stage now as apocalypse doubled up on mediocrity and the new film dark phoenix pretty much collapses under its own weight ending a series on severely underwhelming note.

Saw the movie today after hearing of negative reviews and low score, but i liked it! It is way more of an accurate story of the cosmic phoenix force compared to xmen last stand. It did seem rushed as a movie since disney bought the xmen rights i guess. One thing i didnt understand was in the last movie apocalypse, he said all is revealed before jean killed him and was visually seen with a firebird image around her, but in dark phoenix she didnt get the power until they were in space?! Other than that the special effects were awesome, the story followed the comics way better than making jean a schizoprenic demon as bret rattner did in the last stand and also including the alien race that the phoenix entity destroyed on their home planet. They could have made a 2nd movie including lilandra and that whole story arc. Poor quicksilver tho! Had fewer scenes than ever! But overall, i enjoyed it as the final xmen film from fox! The phoenix is awesome! Maybe one day, the phoenix will rise from the ashes again!

We've been here before. For whatever reason, X-Men movie franchises seem completely unable to move away from Jean Grey's ultimate downfall as the Dark Phoenix. It happened back in 2006 with X-Men: The Last Stand and it's happening now with X-Men: Dark Phoenix. But were any lessons learned from the first time around? The answer is an unfortunate but resounding: No.

I have seen some pretty bad movies , but this movie takes the cake . It is a waste of time save your money ! The Phoenix was an entity not jean grey struggling with parental issues why waste money on making the movie if you aren't going to make it right ! Why is everything taking place on earth ! The story should have been based on Jean grey and her love for Scott and the Xmen along with aliens we know about like lilandra and the emcron crystal and tell people about the Phoenix force this was some low budget made for TV movie ...the cast was horrible I mean the plot made no sense the dark Phoenix came after the Phoenix saga ...why not introduce members of the hellfire club if you want the dark Phoenix why not introduce the imperial guard why not introduce d'ken why scale it down to earth and have Jean grey looking for her father why why why ? You did this is the last stand and it didn't work why do it again ?!? What a waste of time and 200 million dollars ! Simon Kinberg I hope you never work again ! Did you even read the comics or even watch the animated stuff why can't people take from that we don't want your twist !

To be clear, I love Sophie so much. But the first time i've seen that she is going to play Jean Grey I was sad... Just go back look Famke Jenssen's Phoenix and you will se what i'm talking about. I was afraid of her in previous movies, just looking at her face I could feel the power etc.. She was amazing. People say no one can replace Jackman as Logan? Same goes here for Jean. At least McAvoy and Fassbender are soo god here, they could actually save the movie. The rest of the cast is major mistake.. Plus the script was pathetic, lame and boring.. Sorry guys, I had high hopes for this movie.

X men franchise and sequel to X-men apocalypse focuses on Jean greys powers. The story starts with a rescue mission in space and some mysterious cosmic powers attained by Jean grey. later on the X men has to decide if to save Jean grey or the rest of the humanity. The direction and the story was par excellence with the other x men series and the visual were wonderful as usual. The back ground score is absolute hit and apt for the movie. The movie can be still good with an improvement in the screenplay and dialogues. The movie is a watchable for sure for the x men series lovers.

Dark Phoenix is the intense, final installment of the 2000 - 2019 X - Men series. It does have flaws, as well as some scenes are slow, but there are standout moments and entertaining ones that keep you engaged. The story was good, previous movies had a better story, but this has enough complexity to keep you occupied, and, at least for some, entertained. The visuals were great, not amazing, but great. The action scenes were amazing. They were intense and thrilling. The camera work was fine, even during the action scenes. The script was good, i do not know how to feel about the X - Woman line, but i wasn 't bothered by it. But some of the other dialouge was great. It might get awkward , but those moments are passive. Finally , the acting. Sophie Turner, Jessica Chastain , James McAvoy, Jeniffer Lawrence, Michal Fassbender, Alexandra Shripp, and e.t.c did great and they used their best effort . Overall, X - Men : Dark Phoenix, coming from a person who has seen all , expect the R - rated movies, is a flawed, but entertaining entry and finale to 20 years of storytelling , that is worth a watch. If you bring a child to this movie make sure they are comfortable with other Marvel or DC movies or previous X - Men installments,, and can handle more complex and slightly more intense storytelling, like Endgame. Dark Phoenix follows the X - Men on space mission to rescue astronauts who are trapped in space due to solar flares. Jean Grey, a fellow X - Men member, gets hit and consumed by a mysterious dusty and firey force called The Phoenix Force, well stranded in one of the ships, but she makes it back safely. Jean feels great at first, but she starts to become dangerous and extremely powerful and unstable, like a bomb ready to explode. As she begins to start hurting people around her when she looses control, and being constantly rejected , Jean becomes more aware of the power inside her, and how if she embraces it, she can become a god, but the X - Men begin to split apart on if they should kill one of there own , and kill Jean, or if the Jean they know is still inside her, and can be saved. As Jean decides that the X - Men fear her and she must get rid of them in Dark Phoenix

Dark Phenoix is not the perfect film to end the Fox's X-Man Saga, but it is atleast tries to end them impeccably on a high note plus a suitable movie to watch on Eid as it promotes the real distinctive meaning of what it is like to have true friendship and family. Dark Phenoix is the 2nd best with days of future past still holds the throne and first class comes off as the second runner-up which places Apocalypse as the worst of all.

The decision-making by the major characters in the first half of the film is not logical. Worse yet, almost everyone is acting is out-of-character. It's like the writers had never watched the previous Xmen movies and were making things up as they went along. Magneto is the one exception. The second half the dialogue gets better but unfortunately that's also when the plot jumps the shark. What a bad film. What a complete waste of my time. What a poor representation of Professor X, and dissservice to Jean Gray, the phoenix force, Raven, and so many other characters. The worst X man movie created to date

A film that seemed to start off well showing an X-Men team working together to pull off dangerous missions which then just falls to pieces. Everything feels like there was very little effort whether it be the very predictable story, boring writing, generic villains and tame action scenes and as a result leaves a very bland and forgettable movie. Whilst a relatively short film; the middle section drags on with little point before ramping up to a seemingly quick ending. In terms of the X-Men franchise this is easily the worst out of all them, even below Apocalypse.

Before I begin I want to preface by saying I have been a huge x-men fan, I’ve read the comics and loved the first Bryan singer directed film back in 2000. I’ve grown with these characters through high and lows and even when it was kind of embarrassing ( origins) tho I still found good moments and tried to get them all an equally chance in terms of quality. DOFP however changed the game in terms of comic book storytelling and proved a franchise could be revived and brought back from the flames (que the pun) After the divisive Apocalypse Kinberg was brought to bring one of the iconic stories ever put into x-men history and did he do it justice ? Yes and No. For starters, the real champion of this film is Sophie Turner. Not only did she carry the entire film but she made me believe there was definitley something going on internally with her and seeing the pain and emotion gave this film the leverage it needed to stay afloat. In terms of being faithful to the source material and the promos she didn’t go full phoenix like she did in Apocalypse but she still was allowed to let loose and when she did, it looked beyond superb. In the comics there was a lot more going on in Jean’s head and she was manipulated essentially by mastermind who in this film is substituted for an alien shapeshifter played by Miss Jessica Chastain who gives a good menacing performance. Why the change in the villain? I have no idea yet these new villains didn’t bother me so much, in fact their arc plays very well into the plot and given how the phoenix force in the comics is a destroyer of worlds it makes sense this race wants to get their home back. Chastain gets to let loose for most of it and let me tell you she’s pretty bad-ass. Mccavoy and Fassbender prove again they’re just born to play these roles and Charles and Erik get to have a few good moments in the fight. As for the other members, everybody this time around actually gets the comic treatment and they coordinate as a team . I found myself just amazed how well they figured out certain situations and just worked perfect together to figure out the solutions. Perhaps one of the best example is a wonderful train sequence that is being talked about, yes the hype is real . Perfectly filmed and accompanied by Zimmer’s score make the final battle an epic one. Storm gets to let loose for a bit and it looks spectacular, and one again the team working together really brings it all together nicely. Also there are a few cool comic cameos that appear so make sure to keep your eyes open! In terms of Spectacle this isn’t the most over the top action superhero flick ever. It felt very laid back almost as if there was an emphasis on this team being broken apart rather than letting the phoenix go crazy and cause havoc. In fact, I give Kinberg credit for doing something different amongst the comic book landscape. It was like he knew this was the end of an era and focused more on emotions. With beautiful hints of Foley of were treated to one of the most beautiful film scores ever put into a superhero film ever ! Hans Zimmer elevates this film so much that I found myself immersed in the background ; music is very important and given how intense certain scenes were he brought it up to an 11. Overall if you like x-men or just comic book movies in general give dark phoenix a chance , sure it’s not the greatest sendoff they could have done for this series but as a film it’s pretty great. I hope to see this cast succeed in other projects and as for Mr. Zimmer you’ve created another masterpiece that will be used as decades past.

Manikandan posted a review for Dark Phoenix in Movies
